Celebrations & Rewards
At The John Wesley CEM Primary School, one of our priorities is to make sure we both recognise and celebrate our children’s successes. We actively encourage both children and adults to participate in activities which identify and highlight achievements, both big and small – even those achieved beyond the school gates.
At The John Wesley CEM Primary School, our aim is that children work and behave well for the intrinsic rewards, however we also have a range of methods and rewards to recognise successes and positive behaviour that may be individual, group, class, phase or school wide including:
- Verbal public and private praise to promote self-esteem and celebrate specific actions or achievements
- Emails are sent to parents to celebrate successes.
- Jars of Joy – We have Jars to put notes in about children & staff who exhibit desired expectations. A jar of joy is displayed in each class. Each time the class work as a team to exhibit desired learning behaviour, a note is placed in the jar or if an individual achieves something they have strived for all week, a note is placed in the jar. There are many ways the jar is filled with joy. On a Friday, some of the joys from the week/term are shared to celebrate individuals, the class or feelings.
- Value certificates are awarded to children who have demonstrated one of our school values in that week. Sometimes certificates are awarded to groups of children or whole classes! Children are encouraged to take these certificates home to share them with their families and display them proudly.
- We award house points for behaviours linked to the school values.
- House point cards are displayed as a recognition board. Children’s HP cards will be displayed on the recognition boards and House Points will be given out when they have exhibited value linked behaviour. they achieve certificates when they reach 20 HPS. For more information, see our Houses page:
- Celebration Worship & Feel Good Fridays: In Friday’s Celebration Worship, Jars of Joy notes will be read out at random and celebrated. Value certificates are also awarded to children in Worship for demonstrating different values.
- Deputy Headteacher & Headteacher Awards - Any day or time, a child can be sent down to see Miss Harrington or Mrs Clark to be awarded a Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher award, recognising something special that has been achieved. This could be related to their learning, behaviour or attitude to the school community. They visit Mrs clark or Miss Harrington to share their learning or talk about the special achievement. A text/email is also sent home to celebrate this amazing success with their families.Tehy also get a shiny gold (HT) or silver (DHT) sticker.
