Term 6 Connected Learning

This term, our learning question is: Should animals be kept in a zoo?

Through our Connected Learning, we will be learning about the key aspects of physical geography, which include climate zone, biomes and vegetation belts. We will also be focusing on the environmental regions around the world in particular the natural environments for gorillas and apes.

In English this term we will be reading 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne, where we will write our own narratives based on the story. The children will learn how to use fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases effectively through their writing. In our Guided Reading we have a book called, 'A Myth Hunter's Travel Guide by Tom Button, where we will be developing our skills in using dictionaries and using retrieval skills to find key facts in non-fiction text.

As part of our science , we will be exploring Humans and other animals; where the children will begin to understand the digestive system and the function of their teeth. They will learn about nutrition and aiming for a balance diet to keep our bodies healthy.

In Maths, we will begin the year with securing and building on our understanding of place value with numbers up to 10,000. The children will be partitioning, ordering and comparing numbers in a variety of ways. We will begin to build on our times table knowledge by securing our 2,5 and 10 times tables and then starting our Mastery in Number learning so that we can recall our multiplication facts mentally.

Finally, in RE, we will learn about the Creation story where we will begin to explore the question: What do Christians learn from the Creation story? We will look at Genesis and how we can become caretakers of the world.
