Term 6 Connected Learning

This term, our learning question is: How is our planet changing?

Through our Connected Learning, we will be learning about Mountains and Caves, which will be reinforced with a visit to Chislehurst Caves early in the term.  We will be learning about how Mountains and Caves are formed and understanding how contour lines are used on maps to determine height differences in the land in our Geography unit.  In English this term we will be reading 'Blue John' by Berlie Doherty, where we will write an explanation text on how caves are formed. In our Guided Reading we have a book called, 'A World full of Animal Stories, 50 Folktales and Legends by Angela McAllister, where we will be developing our skills using inference and finding evidence to support our answers from the text. As part of our science ,  we will be exploring electricity and circuits and using these skills in our DT learning to create a working torch, which could be used in a cave.  In Maths, we will be starting to apply our knowledge of decimals to money and learning about analogue and digital time. We will finish off the term looking at shape, statistics and reinforcing our skills in the four main operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) applying these skills to Money and worded problems.  The children will continue to build on and learn to recall their times tables mentally.  Finally, in RE, we will be continuing to learn about  Hindu Dharma, where we will focus on the question 'What is it like to be a Hindu in Britain?' Our focus will be on the deity Ganesha and Hindu ceremonies.
