Term 1 Curriculum
This term in English, we will be reading The Gingerbread Man by Mara Alperin, exploring the characters, setting and key events in the story. Children will learn to sequence the story, make predictions about what might happen next and begin writing simple words.
In Maths, they will build on their early number knowledge by developing their counting and subitising skills, exploring numbers within 5, and comparing groups of objects using mathematical language.
In Phonics, we follow the Little Wandle programme, beginning with Phase 2 grapheme-phoneme correspondences, with daily phonics lessons and three reading sessions each week. Children will bring home reading books and a ‘Treasure Chest Book’ to share with family members.
In RE, we will be learning about Creation, exploring the question ‘Who is God?’ and discussing how we can care for our wonderful world. Through PSED, children will learn to recognise and respond to emotions, develop respect and resilience, and begin to understand and manage risk safely.
In Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design, we will explore the signs of autumn, learn about families and maps, sing songs, create gingerbread man collages and investigate colour mixing through painting activities.

Home Learning
Please try to read at least three times per week and write in the reading record diary. Your child has a 'Treasure Book' that you can share together (your child is not expected to be able to read this alone) and a reading book which they have read three times at school and should also be reading at home, the aim is they should be reading this book fluently by the time they return it to school on a Wednesday.
