 Term 5 Connected Learning

This term we will focus on our environments around us and how to look after our world. Our key English text this term is ‘The Paper Bag Prince’ by Colin Thompson, which explores themes of pollution and the resilience of nature – encouraging children to write their own persuasive texts. In this unit we will focus on writing cohesive, formal paragraphs, using modal verbs and persuasive devices alongside features like relative clauses and parenthesis which we have already covered. In Maths this term we begin with perimeter and area, and then move on to interpret tables and graphs within our statistics unit. In Geography, we will be studying regions of the UK, learning where we live in relation to other counties and towns, as well as exploring human and physical characteristics and topographical features touching on how these may have changed over time, In Science we will explore both plant and animal reproduction, looking at different types of reproduction across the animal classes and how these may differ across species. In Music this term we will spend time beginning to learn the Ukulele, basic chords and how to follow musical notes. During Computing, the children will have the opportunity to use and program small ‘crumble’ computers, understanding how to code outputs and conditions, building up to writing and testing their very own algorithms! In RE, we will be exploring what it means to be Jewish in Britain today - learning about the Torah, Synagogues and important festivals like Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We are very excited to be taking part in swimming lessons on Thursday mornings during Term 5 and are sure we will have a great term.
